Inside Outside and On the Ropes Life Lessons from QSchool and The Majors edition by Keith Gockenbach SelfHelp eBooks Reviews

If you like golf....you'll love Keith's story about his journey -- full of highs and lows that all golfers, regardless of skill, can relate to. Well written, informative, and fun.
Wonderful book, if you love golf and have wanted to know how it actually feels to be on the professional tour. A working mans desire to be a tour player,we can all secretly relate to that.
The author gives a great understanding of what a really good golfer goes through to become a member of the elete group at the top. I enjoyed the stories of what really goes on behind the scenes, and the heart ache of near misses. Very good course management lessons and tips, too. Well worth the read.
A great book detailing the journey of a businessman and really good golfer with a dream of playing on the Champions tour. The successes of qualifying for the Senior US Open and the Senior British Open, the series of Monday qualifiers, and the low odds of the Senior Tour Q-School are all discussed here from an inside the ropes perspective. The author also shares some of his key learnings from success in the business world. Most of all it's about the author's dream to be a professional golfer and just how difficult it is to be in a very exclusive club called the Champions Tour. (BJE)
This is an impressive book, especially for a first-time author. It gives a comprehensive look at what a golfer has to go through to try to make it at the highest level. The author covers the expense involved in going to the qualifier and pre-qualifier events;the small or non-existent payouts; the varying conditions of golf courses that are not always top-notch; working with swing-coaches, putting gurus and sports psychologists; advances in technology and being properly fitted for clubs (which allowed Keith to hit the ball further at age 50 than he could as a scratch golfer at age 16); the importance of a good "looper"; fraud on one of the mini-tours; playing with golfers who cheat (in the author's experience, these tend to be the better golfers rather than Joe Ordinary!); etc. The book flows along smoothly and Keith has a nice writing style (except for an unfortunate penchant for using the word "couple" on almost every page! How about "several" or "a few" once in awhile?) The only reason I am giving this book 4 stars rather than 5 is because the author tends to go into too much shot-by-shot detail of too many rounds. Even for a golf-nut such as myself it got to be a bit too much at times. It might have been better if some of these rounds had been eliminated, even if the book would have been a bit shorter. Or maybe Keith could have included a few more anecdotes about his fellow players? Still, these are minor quibbles and this is a very good book and it gives a wonderful behind-the-scenes look at the real world of the journeyman golfer.
Enjoyed the book very much. It gave a lot of insights about what it is really like being on the pga tour.
